On November 5, research firm Counterpoint Research released data showing that MediaTek has remained at the top of the global and Chinese smartphone chip market share for the past eight consecutive quarters, with its share of the global mobile phone chip market climbing from 33% in the third quarter of 2020 to 39% in the second quarter of 2022, meaning MediaTek is accelerating its presence in the flagship smartphone market penetration.

In terms of growth, Counterpoint Research data shows that MediaTek leads the Chinese smartphone SoC market with 42% market share in Q2 2022; more than doubling MediaTek's market share compared to Q2 2020.

In fact, the story behind MediaTek's rapid growth relies on the strong drive of its flagship chip, the Tiangui 9000 series, which has been able to sustain its competitiveness in the global smartphone SoC market as MediaTek continues to launch new Tiangui 5G smartphone chips.

It is understood that since MediaTek officially entered the flagship smartphone market last year with the launch of the Tiangui 9000 series of chips, the series has been recognized by a number of mainstream mobile phone manufacturers, such as OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi, Honor and Asus ROG. The launch of the Tiangui 9000+ in the middle of the year will undoubtedly help MediaTek boost its market share in the high-end segment in the second half of the year.

At the market level, the significant growth achieved in the high-end market is the driving force behind MediaTek's long term growth in global and Chinese mobile chip market share.

In addition, institutional analysts point out that MediaTek plans to launch a new generation of flagship chips in the fourth quarter of 2022 to continue its growth momentum in the high-end handset market.
