[Mingjiaoda Electronics Acquisition] Amphenol, the global connector leader, announced at 2023 electronica China in Munich, Shanghai that it has relaunched the new ExaMAX2 Gen2. As an enhancement to the ExaMAX2 series, the ExaMAX2 Gen2 offers significant performance improvements over its predecessor. This upgrade will make the ExaMAX2 connector one of the best performing 112G connectors in terms of signal integrity, including reflection and isolation.
With the disruptive development of AI+ products such as ChatGPT, as well as the rapid development of 5G base station landing and 6G technology, a large number of applications backplane connectors, high-speed connectors and other products emerging market.
"Artificial Intelligence because Open AI released chatGPT, the whole AI industry pushed to an unprecedented height, the world, especially North America and China are developing their own AI technology." Amphenol communication and business products division, technical director Roy Wu said, with the increasing demand for large-scale GPU clusters of AI, the connector industry poses a huge challenge, especially in the signal density, signal integrity, including heat dissipation, power consumption and other aspects.
To give full play to the performance of AI hardware computing power, the key to crack the interconnect bottleneck lies in the connector. Therefore, in the future, high-speed transmission will move towards the direction of "56G-112G-224G", which gives rise to urgent demand for high-speed connectors. However, due to the high technical threshold, the real mass production of high-speed connectors are rare. 112G high-speed backplane connector is the current connector manufacturers are trying to attack, one of the hot products of the competition.
Amphenol Amphenol global product line manager, business development manager David Jiang said: "to the speed of this field like 56G, 112G or even 224G, high-speed connector is a systematic project, it is similar to the bucket of the short-board effect, crosstalk, return loss, insertion loss and so on the performance of these, any piece of the short board, it is! Decide the final level of the programme. Therefore, in addition to making a trade-off between density and speed, we also have to consider the shape of the system design, compatibility, cost and other aspects of the series of issues."
Against this backdrop, Amphenol launched ExaMAX2 Gen2, a connector system that has been an industry leader in return loss performance, and this upgrade significantly reduces crosstalk in both the 85Ω and 92Ω impedance versions of the system. This second generation of products makes the already superior ExaMAX2 connector system an industry-leading solution for cost, signal density, PCB routing and overall performance for a wide range of applications in the communications, data, industrial and instrumentation industries.
With the launch of the new ExaMAX2 connectors, a new version of the wiring specification and packaging design requirements will also be released. This updated wiring specification and packaging design requirements are tailored to enhance the performance of ExaMAX2 Gen2 connectors.
The ExaMAX2 products have been optimised for the connection interface to ensure that the connectors can accept insertion gaps in excess of 1mm at 112G rates without impacting reflections on 85Ω and 92Ω resistor versions of the system.
At the same time, the ExaMAX2 connector supports backward compatibility with older ExaMAX connectors, highly compatible performance ensures that the ExaMAX2 connector can be used with existing systems equipped with older ExaMAX connectors, and allows system designers to achieve seamless upgrades between the old and new systems without requiring major changes or adjustments to the cabinet.
The upgrade programme is expected to be implemented in 2023 and will cover all ExaMAX2 product types, replacing the existing Gen1 version.
As part of its "customer-focused" approach, Amphenol will help customers make a seamless transition between the old and the new products and deliver improved SI performance, while Gen2 product part numbers will remain unchanged and product drawings and specifications will remain unchanged. This means that customers will still be able to identify and order products in the same way as before, but with improved product quality, compatibility and engineering support.
Amphenol also confirms that the pricing of the second-generation products will remain the same as the first-generation products. The performance upgrade will be offered free of charge to customers.
Overall, compared with the same performance products on the market, ExaMAX2 Gen2's advantages are: the best SI performance, excellent compatibility, reliability; a broad customer base and competitive price.
"In the layout of artificial intelligence, Amphenol Amphenol in the past to walk in the world's forefront, but also actively in China to cover this market, and today we are working with the world's largest GPU manufacturers, to provide the latest solutions for their next-generation GPU new architecture, so I believe that no matter in the past or in the future, Amphenol Amphenol will be the leader in this industry. Amphenol will be a leader in this industry both in the past and in the future." said Roy Wu, Technical Director of Amphenol's Communications and Business Products Division.
