The Melexis MLX90316KDC-BDG-100-RE is a Tria⊗is® Rotary Position Sensor that provides the absolute angular position of small dipole magnets (shaft-end magnets) rotating above the surface of the device. Thanks to the integrated magnetic concentrator (IMC) on its surface, this monolithic device senses the horizontal component of the applied magnetic flux density in a non-contact manner. This unique sensing principle applied to the rotary position sensor enables an impressive robustness of the angular position within mechanical tolerances (air gap, off-axis tolerance). The rotation of the horizontal component is sensed over a wide range (up to 360 degrees - full revolution) and processed by the on-chip DSP (Digital Signal Processor), which ultimately reports the absolute angular position of the magnet as an analogue ratiometric output or as a PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) signal, or as 14-bit data accessible via a 3-pin SPI (Serial Interface) channel. Output transfer characteristics are fully programmable (e.g., offset, gain, clamping level, linearity, thermal drift, filtering, range ......) to meet any specific requirements through terminal calibration.
