I. Introduction

The ISL9238 buck-Boost NVDC charger features NVDC (narrow output voltage DC) charging, system bus regulation and protection for tablets, ultrabooks, laptops, mobile power supplies and any USB-C interface platform. Intersil's advanced R3™ technology is used to provide high light load efficiency and fast transient response. In charging mode, the ISL9238 receives input power from a variety of DC sources. The battery pack with up to four lithium-ion batteries is then safely charged. As an NVDC topological charger, it also adjusts the system output to a narrow DC range for a stable system bus voltage. System power can be provided by an adapter, battery, or a combination of the two. The ISL9238 can operate with only the battery, only an adapter, or both connected.
