Device Description

The STEC01PUR Ground Path Safety Switch is an integrated programmable 12mΩ power switch managed by a timer-based circuit.The STEC01 is equipped with 3 timers designed to interrupt the ground path of a power application.

This is done after the maximum on-time, which can limit platform restarts during the cooling window. Other features include a maximum on-time that can be set from a few seconds to hundreds of seconds and a programmable cooling window of 1, 5 and 20 minutes.The STEC01 sets the timing via 3 multi-stage input pins plus a programmable oscillator and a fixed oscillator.

When an input continuous or pulsed signal is applied to the PWM pin, internal logic and counters open the STEC01 ground path safety switch. During normal operation, the device automatically enters idle mode when activity on the PWM pin ceases, waiting for a new valid PWM signal to be applied.The STEC01 switch detects a fault condition and generates a reset pulse that shuts down and schedules the safety MOSFET according to a predefined state.

The STMicroelectronics STEC01 ground path safety switch has up to 7A continuous current capability via an internal power MOSFET. If more current is required, an external power transistor driven via the GDRV pin will support the higher current.The HW_RESET input pin has a rising edge, which generates a 50ms pulse on the RESET_FAULT pin, which can be used to notify the connection of an external power supply (e.g. USB).
