Introduction

The Bosch BMI270 ultra-low power Intelligent Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is specifically designed for use in a variety of wearable applications, greatly improving accelerometer performance. The BMI270 includes intuitive gesture, scene and activity recognition and integrates a plug-and-play pedometer optimized for wrist-worn devices. The IMU is also ideal for other types of wearables such as ear worn devices, smart clothing, smart shoes, smart glasses, and ankle straps.


As an ultra-low-power IMU, the BMI270 extends system battery life by handling multiple activity tracking, step counting, and gesture recognition functions, independent of the main system processor without having to wake it up. These processor-independent features include tasks such as sending interrupts when a certain number of steps is reached, or activating GPS via geofencing when the user stands up and starts walking. As a result, powerful and accurate gesture and activity recognition functions run in ultra-low power domains with current consumption of only 30μA. This significantly reduces power consumption and users can benefit from extended battery charging intervals.

The "Scenarios and Activities" version has advanced features for identifying situational activities and changes in activity, such as standing, walking, or being in a car.
