The MC9S12XD series introduces the performance enhancing XGATE module. Using enhanced DMA functionality, this parallel processing module eases the burden on the CPU by providing high-speed data processing and transfers between peripheral modules, RAM, Flash EEPROM and I/O ports. XGATE provides the CPU with up to 80 MIPS of additional performance with access to all peripherals, Flash EEPROM and RAM blocks.
