The NX20P0407UKAZ is a single chip USB type-C port protection solution. The CC1/CC2 and SBU1/SBU2 pins on the system side provide 28V short-circuit over-voltage protection with a short-circuit connection to VBUS, these pins are located next to the VBUS pin.
USB Type C allows the VBUS voltage to be increased to 20V via the Power Delivery Protocol, the concern is that these CC1/2 and SBU1/2 pins can be shorted with VBUS when plugged into a mechanical twisted pair connector because the Type C connector contact pins are 25% closer to each other than the previous generation of connectors, the micro USB that most mobile devices have been using. another issue is that moisture or fine dust may cause a voltage short to 20V VBUS next to the pins.
The NX20P0407UKAZ makes the CC and SBU more robust under abnormal conditions.The NX20P0407 has a 28VDC tolerance on the connector-side CON_CC1, CON_CC2, CON_SBU1, and CON_SBU2 pins, which provides for a quick switch-off if the voltage is higher than the over-voltage threshold, and the system-side CC1, CC2, SBU1, and SBU2 are protected from high voltage.
The NX20P0407UKAZ integrates IEC 61000-4-2 ESD protection on CON_CC1 and CON_CC2, + 15KV air discharge, and + 8KV contact discharge, helping to reduce external BOM costs.
