February 21, according to the official news of China Mobile, recently, China Mobile Research Institute, together with ZTE, Huawei and other industrial partners, completed the end-to-end infield test validation of RedCap for 5G core network, laying a good foundation for accelerating the commercial deployment of RedCap technology.

The 3GPP R17 standard definition RedCap is one of the key technologies for medium- and high-speed IoT scenarios, mainly targeting three medium- and high-speed application scenarios such as wearable devices, industrial wireless sensors and video surveillance, extending 5G IoT applications and achieving an effective balance in terms of cost, bandwidth and power consumption.

China Mobile Research Institute has led the development of 3GPP SA2 / SA5 / CT standards and led the development of TS 23.501, 23.502, 24.501, 23.122, 24.008 and other technical specifications. To further facilitate the maturity and rapid commercialization of RedCap, CMRS has conducted a detailed analysis of the impact of the introduction of RedCap technology on network architecture, network element functions and operation and maintenance based on the development of the RedCap industry chain and its rich experience in supporting network planning, construction and operation and maintenance, and has focused on technical trials in two aspects.

Firstly, end-to-end verification was conducted on the basic functions of RedCap such as initial registration, interoperability, access control and PDU session establishment to ensure the basic service experience of RedCap user access; at the same time, to support the development of RedCap's special packages and services, this lab test also covered enhanced capabilities such as user identification, policy control, billing and header enhancement.

Secondly, compatibility tests were conducted for five scenarios, including no upgrade of all network elements, upgrade of some network elements and no upgrade of all network elements, to achieve a comprehensive verification of the initial, intermediate and target states of the RedCap network deployment evolution.

China Mobile said that the RedCap end-to-end infield test for 5G core network has initially verified the feasibility of RedCap commercialization in 2B and 2C networks, providing reference and guidance for the industry's next product development, helping to accelerate the shortcomings of IoT access and network capacity in medium and high speed scenarios, and helping 5G to empower vertical industries.
