Feb. 8 - Qualcomm announced the world's first 5G NR-Light (also known as RedCap) modem and RF system, the Snapdragon X35 5G modem and RF system, bringing a complementary blend of performance and complexity to today's 5G for mid-range use cases.

Snapdragon X35 extends 5G to new and rich use cases, such as superior smartwatches, next-generation XR glasses and industrial IoT. Snapdragon X35-powered NR-Light devices are smaller, lower cost and longer lasting than traditional mobile broadband devices.


This lower cost platform provides device manufacturers with a long-term solution to replace LTE CAT4+ devices and migrate to 5G, ultimately driving 5G adoption and accelerating the transition to a unified 5G network.


In addition to the Snapdragon X35, Qualcomm Technologies also introduced the Snapdragon X32 5G modem and RF system, a modem-to-antenna solution designed to enable the creation of less complex, cost-efficient NR-Light devices.
