Infineon: Expect automotive MCU shortage to ease in the second half of this year
German automotive semiconductor supplier Infineon said in a recent conference call that it expects automotive MCU supply to improve in the second half of 2023, following the acquisition of more wafers, DIGITIMES reported.
February 6 - German automotive semiconductor supplier Infineon said in a recent conference call that it expects automotive MCU supply to improve in the second half of 2023, following the acquisition of more wafers, DIGITIMES reported.
Infineon reiterated the divergence in the semiconductor market, with demand for semiconductors in the automotive, renewable energy and security sectors remaining strong, while demand for consumer products is experiencing a cyclical slowdown and corporate spending on IT infrastructure is weak.
Infineon said that with continued growth in electric mobility and ADAS, customers are now more willing to sign capacity retention agreements or place longer commitment orders to secure semiconductor supply. OEMs now have a "strong tendency" to source strategic components directly and work to increase inventory levels.
To meet this demand, Infineon says it is increasing its sales rate to nearly one million units per day. For the financial year 2023, capacity for automotive products is fully booked.
Despite the strong dynamics seen in the automotive and renewable energy sectors, Infineon remains cautious for the coming quarters, preparing for a macroeconomic slowdown due to inflation in an interest rate hike environment.
