China Mobile's chip company launches RISC-V core IoT communication chip

China Mobiles chip company, Coresun Technology Limited, has announced two RISC-V core IoT communication chips.

December 12, 2022 China Mobile Global Partner Conference - IoT Sub-Forum was held today. China Mobile's chip company, Coresun Technology Limited, unveiled two RISC-V core IoT communication chips.

Data shows that China Mobile's NB and Cat1 subscribers are growing rapidly, with NB subscribers reaching 120 million and Cat1 subscribers reaching 240 million by October 2022.


The CM6620 NB-IoT communication chip is CMCC's first low-power NB-IoT IoT communication chip based on RISC-V core architecture, using a home-made 192MHz RISC-V core and 40nm process.


In terms of interfaces, the CM6620 has 4 UARTs, 1 LPUART, 2 SPI Masters, 1 SPI Slave, 2 I2Cs, 4 PWMs, 4 Timers, 1 watchdog, 1 sim (supporting eSIM), as well as a 5-channel 12-bit ADC and a temperature sensor. In terms of security, the CM6620 has a protocol stack encryption accelerator and supports SNOW3G / AES / ZUC encryption algorithms.


Data shows that the CM6620 has a low standby current of 0.9µA and a communication reception sensitivity of -118dBm to support the normal use of the terminal under weak signal coverage, while optimising the protocol stack and software and streamlining the peripheral components.


In addition, the CM8610 is a RISC-V core-based LTE chip with 22nm process, good RF performance, minimal BOM and Open CPU support for low to medium speed IoT applications.


The CM8610 integrates an application AP, communication modem, RF transceiver, PMU power management unit and memory, and features a 624MHz RISC-V CPU core, as well as Flash, pSRAM and peripheral interfaces to facilitate the use of Open CPU.
