China Telecom, Unicom launch nation's first shared low-band 5G base station in Guangdong
China Telecom, together with China Unicom, has opened the countrys first low-frequency 5G base station built and shared by the telecom and Unicom in Lianzhang Village, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province.
On December 13, China Telecom and China Unicom opened the first low-frequency 5G base station jointly built and shared by China Telecom and Unicom in Lianzhang Village, Qingyuan City, Guangdong Province, involving 800MHz and 900MHz low-frequency replanting, overcoming the technical difficulty of deploying LTE, NR and NB-IOT networks simultaneously in the low-frequency 10MHz spectrum resources.
According to the introduction, Guangdong Telecom opened the first 5G base station in Lianzhang Village in October 2019, which has since become the first 5G-covered "village on the cloud" in China.
Based on the coverage in the 3.5GHz, 2.1GHz and 1.8GHz frequency bands, the 5G coverage in Lianzhang Village has been improved by 1.5 times after the opening of the low-frequency base station, according to the actual test.
It is understood that Guangdong Province has built more than 210,000 5G base stations, ranking first in the country in terms of number.
Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that by the end of October, the total number of 5G base stations in China reached 2.25 million, accounting for 20.9% of the total number of mobile base stations; 5G base stations in the eastern, central, western and northeastern regions reached 1.081 million, 482,000, 547,000 and 140,000 respectively, accounting for 23.1%, 20.4%, 18.1% and 19.7% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in the region.
As at the end of October, the total number of mobile phone subscribers of the three basic telecommunication companies reached 1.682 billion. Among them, 5G mobile phone subscribers reached 524 million, accounting for 31.1% of mobile phone subscribers.
