SK Hynix announces development of fastest DDR5 DRAM memory to date with speeds up to 6400Mbps
SK Hynix today announced that it has recently developed and is sampling the industrys first DDR5 6400Mbps speed 32GB UDIMM (Unbuffered Dual In-line Memory Module) and SODIMM (Small Dual In-line Memory Module) to customers.
October 25, SK Hynix today announced that it has recently developed the industry's first 32GB DDR5 6400Mbps speed UDIMM (Unbuffered Dual In-line Memory Module) and SODIMM (Small Dual In-line Memory Module) and is offering samples to customers. SODIMM is an ultra-small memory module used in PCs.
SK Hynix said it has developed the DDR5 6400Mbps module product, the fastest DDR5 product for PCs and clients, with a speed of 6400Mbps that can transfer approximately 10 full HD movies (5GB) in one second.
The product applies a new device called a CKD (clock driver) for more stable operation during high-speed data processing. SK Hynix was the first in the industry to equip the CKD and the first to provide samples to customer PC SoC (system-on-chip) companies for system evaluation.
In August and September of this year, SK Hynix also completed customer certification of DDR5 module products using 10nm-class 4th generation (1a) microprocessors.
In the future, SK Hynix plans to quickly complete mass customer certification and start mass production to capture the DDR5 market, which is expected to become a mainstay in the market soon as it replaces existing DRAM products with high-capacity, high-performance specifications. In the near future, it will be compatible with chipsets such as new CPUs and support the latest computing systems.
According to several market research institutions, DDR5's share of the overall DRAM market is expected to grow significantly to around 20 percent next year and to around 40 percent by 2025," said a source at SK Hynix. By working closely with our global customers, based on DDR5, we plan to target the PC market as well as the high-end server market."
According to the information, in the first half of next year, SK Hynix also plans to launch several DDR5 products based on 10nm-class 5th generation (1b) microprocessing, and DRAMs applying 1b technology are planned to actively utilize the extreme ultraviolet (EUV) process.
