September 10 - Apple's iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro series released this year still maintain the ‘status quo’ in terms of 5G, with the U.S. version supporting mmWave 5G, while other countries and regions only support sub-6GHz 5G.
Note: Since Apple entered the 5G era with the release of the iPhone 12 series in 2020, the U.S. version of the iPhone still has exclusive support for the faster mmWave, while the rest of the world only supports sub-6GHz.
While mmWave technology offers the fastest 5G speeds, it's largely limited to urban areas due to its short range and inability to penetrate obstacles. In contrast, sub-6GHz 5G has a much wider reach, covering rural and suburban areas, among other things.
It's worth noting that the mmWave antenna has been replaced with a camera control button on the US iPhone 16 model, and instead of a visible mmWave cutout, the antenna is now integrated into the iPhone's mid-frame.
