The LEXI-R10 series of small LTE Cat 1bis modules support the development of global communications. The new SARA-R10 series can be used for easy migration from traditional 2G/3G designs to new networks, and models are introduced with full indoor/outdoor tracking capabilities.

u-blox(SIX:UBXN), a leading global provider of location and wireless communications technologies and services, announced the addition of new modules to its popular R10 portfolio, adding to the rapidly growing LTE Cat 1bis cellular communications market.

Techno Systems Research Co., Ltd predicts that LTE Cat 1bis will account for 43.6% of all non-handheld cellular communications devices by 2029. In the next four to five years, this product is expected to become the best-selling cellular communication technology product in the Internet of Things (IoT) field. The new module strengthens u-blox's LTE Cat 1bis portfolio, addressing the needs of the Internet of Things and users migrating from traditional 2G/3G cellular networks.

The new u-blox LEXI-R10 Global Edition module offers a compact 16 x 16 mm LTE Cat 1bis solution for size-constrained iot applications worldwide, such as people or pet trackers and wearables.

The LEXI-R10 Global Edition module is an extremely compact, single-mode LTE Cat 1bis module that supports indoor navigation and is equipped with a US mobile carrier certified kernel.

At the same time, the new Sara-R10 series also provides u-blox's popular SARA package with the same functionality as the LEXI-R10 Global Edition module. With 2G and 3G communications technologies being phased out worldwide, SARA-R10 provides a direct upgrade path for product designers using u-blox SARA 2G and 3G modules to easily upgrade to 4G LTE, the global cellular communications standard that is widely used today and for many years to come.

The LEXI-R10 and SARA-R10 are optional embedded eSIM cards, and both modules also integrate Wi-Fi sniffers to provide indoor location over Wi-Fi and cellular communications networks via the u-blox CellLocate service.

One of these models is SARA-R10M10, a very small LTE Cat 1bis module that is embedded in the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and capable of both communication and tracking. Combining GNSS, Wi-Fi scanning and global LTE coverage, the module is the ideal solution for asset tracking and connected vehicle applications, enabling continuous communication and indoor and outdoor positioning anywhere in the world. In addition, the module is only half the size of u-blox's previous LTE Cat 1bis portfolio, LENA-R8M10.

The new u-blox R10 module provides product designers with a 4G cellular communications solution for iot applications requiring moderate data rates, global portability, ultra-low power consumption, and small package sizes.

The first LEXI-R10 Global Edition modules and SARA-R10 samples will be released in the third quarter of 2024.
