Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX/OTCQX: IFNNY), a global semiconductor leader in power systems and the Internet of Things, jointly develops and markets high-performance current sensor modules for automotive applications with Swoboda. The collaboration combines Infineon's best-in-class current sensor ics with Swoboda's technical expertise in sensor module development and industrialization to meet the rapid growth of the sensing solutions market for hybrid and electric vehicles. The joint development of high-performance current measurement solutions accelerates time to market for high-volume applications such as traction inverters and battery management systems, as well as other critical automotive applications.

The first of these, Swoboda CSM510HP2, uses a fully packaged current sensor module that significantly reduces footprint without compromising performance. The Infineon TLE4973 coreless current sensor IC enables high precision sensing with a total error of less than 2%. The module is designed for seamless integration with HybridPACK™ Drive G2, Infineon's automotive power module for traction inverters for electric vehicles, thus eliminating the need for a separate external current sensor, creating a more compact traction inverter.

Klaus Lebherz, head of business development at Swoboda, said: "The new generation of current sensors sets a new benchmark in terms of simplifying system integration, and Infineon's latest sensor technology is a perfect fit with Swoboda's injection molding technology."

Andrea Monterastelli, Product Head of Automotive Magnetic Sensors at Infineon Technologies, said: "The market demands high-performance, compact and easily integrated current sensing solutions. Thanks to Infineon's best-in-class current sensor ics and Swoboda's technical expertise, the product seamlessly integrates with Infineon's HybridPACK™ Drive G2 to provide a more compact solution for hybrid and electric vehicles."

Infineon and Swoboda are currently developing more current sensing solutions for a wide range of power devices. Other targeted applications include inverter DC links and high-voltage battery management.
