Murata Production Co., Ltd. has developed Murata's first (1) communication module "Type 2GT" that supports both LoRaWAN®(2) and satellite communications. It can be used for various IoT devices such as smart agriculture, environmental sensing, and smart homes. Mass production began in March 2024.

In recent years, 5G, IoT and other communication infrastructure continue to develop, as communication satellites become more and more miniaturized, a large number of satellites formed satellite network coverage is becoming more and more extensive, satellite communication has become an important social infrastructure is becoming a new hope. However, as of now, satellite communication has not been applied to the IoT field, and there is a demand for satellite communication in areas where cellular communication is not available.

To this end, Murata has developed the "Type 2GT" module, which is the first Murata product to support both LoRaWAN® and satellite communications. This product is equipped with the Semtech chipset "LoRa Connect™ LR1121", which is the first to support LoRaWAN® and satellite communication, and can perform long-distance communication and satellite communication at 860MHz to 930MHz and 2.4GHz (ISM Band) and transmit power up to 22dBm. Through Murata's unique wireless design technology, space-saving installation technology and product processing technology, miniaturization and high performance are achieved. In addition, it is certified to standards in Europe, the United States, Canada and Japan, helping to streamline the design process for IoT devices and reduce the time it takes to bring the final product to market.
