The TPSI2140QDWQRQ1 Automotive isolation switch is an isolated solid-state relay (SSR) designed for high voltage automotive and industrial applications. The TPSI2140-Q1 integrates with TI's highly reliable capacitive isolation technology and internal back-to-back MOSFETs to form a fully integrated solution that eliminates the need for a secondary side power supply. The primary side of the device requires only a.5mA input current, allowing the user to drive the VDD and EN pins through a single microcontroller GPIO, eliminating the need for an external low-side switch in an optical relay solution. The user also has the option to connect the VDD pin to the 5V to 20V system power supply and drive the EN pin from the GPIO. The EN pin has a fail-safe function that prevents any possibility of reverse power supply to the VDD power supply.
Both secondary sides contain back-to-back MOSFETs with a turn-off voltage of ±1.4kV from S1 to S2. The avalanche robustness and heat sensitive package design of the TPSI2140-Q1 MOSFET enables it to reliably support system-level dielectric withstand voltage testing (HiPot) and withstand DC fast charger surge currents up to 2mA without any external components. The TPSI2140T-Q1 version of the device is equipped with TI's Thermal Avalanche Protection (TAP) feature to support avalanche currents up to 5mA.
