The ADMV1018 is a silicon-germanium (SiGe), microwave, up-converter and down-converter optimized for 5G radio designs operating in the frequency range 24.0 GHz to 29.5 GHz.
Overview
The ADMV1018 is a silicon-germanium (SiGe), microwave, up-converter and down-converter optimized for 5G radio designs operating in the frequency range 24.0 GHz to 29.5 GHz.
The upconverter offers two frequency conversion modes. The device is capable of direct conversion from differential baseband in-phase/orthogonal (I/Q) input signals to RF, as well as single sideband conversion from complex intermediate frequency (IF) input signals. The differential baseband I/Q input path can be disabled, and modulated single-ended complex IF signals from 2 GHz to 9.5 GHz can be fed into the IF path. These signals can then be up-converted to 24.0 GHz to 29.5 GHz, while suppressing unwanted sideband, typically greater than 25 dBc. The Serial Port interface (SPI) provides orthogonal phase adjustment for optimal sideband suppression. In addition, the SPI interface allows the output envelope detector to be turned off to reduce power consumption when carrier feed-through optimization is not required.
The downconverter offers two frequency conversion modes. The device is capable of direct quadrature demodulation of differential baseband I/Q output signals and image suppression down-conversion to single-ended complex IF output carrier frequencies. The I/Q baseband output common-mode voltage can be programmed in the range 0.75 V to 2.15 V, and SPI provides orthogonal phase fine-tuning to optimize I/Q demodulation performance. Alternatively, baseband I/Q output can be disabled, and the I/Q signal can be delivered via on-chip active barron to provide a two-way single-ended complex IF output in the 2 GHz to 9.5 GHz range. When the device is used as an image suppression downconverter, the useless image term is usually suppressed to more than 25 dBc. The ADMV1018 provides a square-law power detector that monitors the power level at the mixer input. The detector output closes the RF digital stepping attenuator (DSA) with an external automatic gain control (AGC) loop.
The ADMV1018 upconverter and downconverter are available in a compact, heat-enhanced 9 mm x 8 mm grid array (LGA) package. This LGA package enables heat dissipation of the ADMV1018 from the top of the package for the most efficient heat dissipation. The ADMV1018 operates from 40°C to +95°C.
