The Broadcom ACPL-C740-500E Sigma-Delta modulator is suitable for fail-safe design. Isolated ADCs offer high reliability, small size, excellent isolation and overheating performance, allowing motor drive designers to accurately measure current.
Overview
The ACPL-C740 Σ-Δ modulator is based on optical coupling technology that converts analog input signals into high-speed data streams with current isolation. The ACPL-C740 is powered by a 5V supply and has a dynamic range of 83dB with a specified digital filter. Differential inputs of ±200mV (full scale ±320mV) are ideal for direct connection of shunt resistors. The input can also be used for other low-level signal sources in the application. The ACPL-C740 has an analog input that allows continuous sampling via an onboard clock and with the help of sigma-δ oversampler. The signal information is contained in the modulator data, and the data density has a data rate of 20MHz. These data are then encoded and transmitted across isolation boundaries, where they are recovered and decoded into high-speed data streams of the numbers 1 and 0.
The ACPL-C740 features reliable enhanced insulation and a high operating insulation voltage with a minimum insulation penetration distance (DTI) of 0.5mm for fail-safe design. Isolated ADCs offer high reliability, small size, excellent isolation and overheating performance, allowing motor drive designers to accurately measure current.
