Murata announced the official release of its first high-frequency filter using XBAR technology and has begun mass production. This product combines the XBAR technology of Resonant (which Murata acquired in 2022) with Murata's proprietary filter technology (SAW). In the high-frequency band above 3GHz, this product can detect the required signal with relatively low loss while eliminating interference signals from adjacent bands. It is mainly applied to various devices with wireless communication functions, such as smart phones, wearable electronics, laptops and gateways, etc.
In recent years, with the continuous development of mobile communication systems such as 5G and 6G, as well as the introduction of wireless local area network standards such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, the market demand for ultra-high-speed and high-capacity communication has grown rapidly. These communication technologies employ high-frequency bands above 3GHz and typically rely on low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) filters or bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filters to extract the required signals. However, LTCC filters and traditional BAW filters have always faced some challenges in high-frequency band applications. For instance, in the case of insufficient attenuation, it is easy for useless signals in adjacent frequency bands to fail to be effectively filtered, thereby generating noise.
The product launched by Murata this time combines Resonant's XBAR technology with Murata's proprietary technology. Even in the frequency band above 3GHz, it still has high attenuation capability, effectively curbing the generation of noise. Meanwhile, it also supports the key requirements of high-frequency communication - low loss and high bandwidth, providing strong support for achieving high-speed, high-capacity and high-quality wireless communication.
XBAR technology can also achieve high attenuation, low loss and large bandwidth in the ultra-high frequency band above 10GHz, which is precisely the target band for 6G communication. Murata will continue to develop high-frequency filter components that meet market demands, thereby contributing to the advancement of high-performance and multi-functional wireless communication technologies.
