According to European industry media reports, the IPD (IP Design) department of Nordic, a well-known manufacturer in the Bluetooth chip field, recently launched a RISC-V architecture core design team to develop open-source architecture microcontroller cores for the company's chip products.

Nordic has more than 1,300 employees and an annual revenue of about 600 million US dollars. Its wireless connection products support various short-range wireless connection protocol standards such as Bluetooth, Thread, and Zigbee. In 2018, Nordic launched a low-power LTE-M/ NB-IoT cellular IoT chip. In 2020, the company acquired the Wi-Fi design team and related IP technology assets of Imagination Technology.


Previously, the company's wireless SoC products mainly used Arm architecture cores, with shipments exceeding 1 billion. The establishment of a RISC-V architecture core design team marks that Nordic will also expand related product layouts in the future.
