With the rapid integration of artificial intelligence into industrial, computing and data centre applications, the market demand for more efficient and advanced power management solutions continues to grow. microchip Technology Inc. today announced the MCP16701, a power management IC (PMIC), to address the needs of high-performance MPU and FPGA designers. The MCP16701 integrates eight 1.5A step-down converters that can be paralleled, four 300 mA internal low dropout regulators (LDOs) and a controller for driving external MOSFETs.
This highly integrated device reduces board area by 48 percent and component count by more than 60 percent compared to discrete solutions. the MCP16701 is available in a small 8 × 8 mm VQFN package, providing a compact and flexible power management solution for space-constrained applications. the MCP16701 meets a wide range of power supply requirements with a configurable feature set and supports Microchip's PIC64-GX MPUs and PolarFire® FPGAs.
With the introduction of the MCP16701, Microchip is setting a new standard in power management IC technology by providing unprecedented levels of integration and flexibility,’ said Rudy Jaramillo, vice president of Microchip's Analogue Power and Interface Business Unit. Designed for high-performance applications, this advanced power management IC is designed to help customers simplify their design process.’
The MCP16701 features an I2C communication interface that simplifies and improves communication between the power management IC and other system components. The device operates over a temperature range of TJ -40°C to +105°C, enabling reliable performance in a variety of complex environmental conditions.
A key feature of the MCP16701 is that it supports dynamic adjustment of the output voltage in 12.5 mV/25 mV steps for all converters. This maximum flexibility allows designers to precisely tune the power output to meet specific application requirements, helping to improve overall system efficiency and performance.
The MCP16701 joins the Microchip family of power management ICs, which already includes the MCP16502, MCP16501 and others, to power high-performance MPU applications including industrial computing, data centre, IoT and edge AI. For more information, visit Microchip's Power Management product page.
