Qorvo today announced the addition of a highly integrated brushless direct current (BLDC) motor driver to its growing line of power management products. Qorvo's new 160V three-phase gate driver dramatically reduces the size of automotive and industrial motor control systems compared to discrete solutions, significantly reducing design time and bill of Material (BOM) cost/component count.

Qorvo's ACT72350 replaces up to 40 discrete components in a BLDC motor control system and offers a configurable analog front end (AFE) that enables customers to configure according to their exact sensing and position detection needs. In addition, it comes with a configurable power manager with an internal DC-DC buck converter and low-voltage differential linear regulator (LDO) to support internal components and serve as an optional power supply for host MCU devices. The wide input voltage range of 25V to 160V also enables customers to reuse their designs for a variety of battery-powered motor control applications, including power tools and garden tools, drones, electric vehicles and electric bicycles.

Jeff Strang, general manager of Qorvo's Power Management Business unit, said: "The latest addition to our power management portfolio brings greater flexibility to our customers' BLDC motor designs, significantly reducing overall solution size, design cycle times, and BOM costs. The ACT72350 provides the critical analog circuits needed to implement BLDC motor control systems and can be used with a wide range of popular MCUS."

The ACT72350 achieves high efficiency through programmable propagation delay, accurate electrofluometric and BEMF feedback, and differentiated features designed for safety-critical applications. This rugged, SOI technology-based motor driver is available now and comes in a 9.0mm x 9.0mm 57-pin QFN package.
