On August 1, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said a few days ago that it has opened a public tender in its latest mid-band spectrum auction, which will auction approximately 8,000 county-level licenses in the 2.5 GHz band in most rural areas of the United States to provide Driving the next generation of 5G wireless services.

The FCC chairman noted on Friday that there are well-known gaps in 5G coverage, especially in rural America, and the auction is a unique opportunity to fill that gap, according to Reuters.


As the number of internet-connected devices has grown dramatically in recent years, the FCC has been auctioning off spectrum to help address the growing demand for wireless connectivity.
