The MAX17853ACB is a flexible data acquisition system for high and low voltage battery module management. The system can measure a combination of 14 battery voltages and 6 temperature or system voltage measurements in 263µs with a fully redundant measurement engine, or perform all input measurements individually in 156µs with an ADC measurement engine. The MAX17853ACB has 14 internal balance switches rated greater than 300mA for battery current balancing, each of which supports comprehensive built-in diagnostics. Up to 32 devices can be Daisy chained together to manage 448 batteries and monitor 192 channels of temperature.


In the 65V common-mode voltage range, the MAX17853ACB measures differential battery and bus voltages from -2.5V to +5V with typical accuracy of 1mV (3.6V battery, 25°C). If oversampling is enabled, the MAX17853ACB internally averages up to 128 measurements per channel at a resolution of 14 bits, combined with digital post-processing IIR filtering for improved noise resistance. By measuring its own core temperature, the system turns itself off when thermal overload occurs.


For reliable communication, the system uses the Maxim battery management UART or SPI protocol and is optimized to support fewer internal diagnostic functions, the MAX17853ACB enables fast alarm communication through embedded communication and hardware alarm interfaces to support ASIL D and FMEA requirements.
