March 25 news, according to Taiwan's ‘China Times’ reported today, TSMC is in full swing to enhance 2nm capacity, its factory in Kaohsiung and Baoshan will be the key base. Kaohsiung plant will be held on 31 March expansion ceremony, the first batch of wafers is expected to be sent to the end of April in Hsinchu, Baoshan.
From 1 April, the order channel for the 2nm process will officially open, and Apple is expected to be the first to lock in the first batch of supply, a trend consistent with past experience. Apple plans to use TSMC's 2nm process to build the A20 chip, which will be designed for the iPhone 18 and is expected to be released in the second half of 2026.
In addition, a number of customers, including AMD, Intel, Broadcom and AWS, are also lining up for 2nm capacity. TSMC aims to increase its monthly capacity to 50,000 wafers by the end of 2025. This is contingent on the Kaohsiung and Baoshan plants being fully operational, and TSMC also having the ability to expand capacity to 80,000 wafers per month at the same time.
The industry is expected to 2nm wafer single chip cost of about 30,000 U.S. dollars (IT home note: the current exchange rate of about 217,000 yuan). According to foreign media Wccftech, in order to reduce customer costs, TSMC plans to launch a ‘CyberShuttle’ service in April, so that customers can evaluate the chip in the same test wafer, in order to reduce research and development expenditures.
