March 22 - Infineon announced on the 12th of this month, local time, the company's Battery Backup Unit (BBU) roadmap for AI data centre systems, ranging from 4kW to 5.5kW to the world's first 12kW BBU power solution.

BBUs enable efficient, stable and scalable power conversion capabilities in AI server racks, a component critical to AI data centres. In addition to ensuring uninterrupted power, BBUs also protect sensitive AI hardware from voltage spikes, surges and other power anomalies.


Infineon's exclusive topology in the 5.5kW BBU combines silicon (Si) and gallium nitride (GaN) technology for ultra-high efficiency and high power density. Its 12kW BBU system combines multiple 4kW power converter cards to deliver a power density four times higher than the industry average; and if one of the multiple converter cards in parallel fails, the system only reduces the output power without interrupting operation.


Adam White, president of Infineon's Power & Sensing Systems Business Unit, said:
