March 14 news, NXP Semiconductors on Tuesday announced a new S32K5 series of automotive microcontrollers (MCU), using Arm Cortex M7 + R52 + M4 multi-core design, up to 800MHz, while equipped with 41MB of MRAM (Note: that is, embedded magnetic random memory).

According to reports, this product adopts 16nm FinFET process and integrates MRAM, which is the first MCU solution in the automotive industry to realise this technological breakthrough, and will provide engineering samples to core customers in the third quarter of 2025.


In addition to the Arm Cortex CPU core, the S32K5 also integrates a dedicated neural network accelerator, the eIQ Neutron NPU, to support real-time sensor data processing; built-in automotive-grade Ethernet switching core, and the S32N in-vehicle processor to form a synergistic network architecture, to achieve the standardisation of network design and software reuse.


According to NXP, the product's core innovations include:

Hardware enforced isolation architecture supporting ASIL-D functional safety level integration

15x faster MRAM write speeds than traditional embedded flash memory, dramatically improving OTA update efficiency

Integrated Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) security accelerator to build full lifecycle security protection.

Optimised accelerator clusters cover critical loads such as network protocol conversion, digital signal processing and more


The S32K5 pushes the boundaries of performance while maintaining the necessary balance of security and performance for a domain control solution, said Manuel Alves, senior vice president of NXP's Automotive Microcontroller Business Unit. With the CoreRide platform, automotive companies and Tier-1 suppliers can accelerate the development of domain control architectures.
