The LTC4263IS is an autonomous single-channel PSE controller for use in IEEE 802.3af-compliant Power over Ethernet systems. It includes a built-in power MOSFET, internal inrush, current limit, and short-circuit control, IEEE 802.3af-compliant PD detection and classification circuitry, and selectable AC or DC disconnect detection. Built-in control algorithms provide complete IEEE 802.3af-compliant operation without the need for a microcontroller, and the LTC4263 simplifies PSE implementation with a single 48V power supply and a small number of passive support components.

Programmable on-board power management circuitry allows multiple LTC4263s to distribute and share power in a multi-port system, thereby maximising 48V power utilisation - all without the intervention of the host processor. Port current limits are configurable to automatically adjust for detected PD levels. Delayed detection timing can be configured for endpoint or midspan operation. Built-in foldback and thermal shutdown circuits provide comprehensive fault protection.

An LED pin is used to indicate the status of the port controlled by the LTC4263. When operated from a single 48V supply, the LED pin can act as a simple switched current source designed to reduce power consumption in the LED driver circuitry.

The LTC4263IS is available in 14-pin 4mm x 3mm DFN and 14-pin SO packages.
