Overview
The LTC5589IUF is a direct conversion I/Q modulator designed for low power wireless applications that enables direct modulation of differential baseband I and Q signals on a single RF carrier. Single sideband modulation or sideband suppressed upconversion can be achieved by applying a 90° phase shift signal to the I and Q inputs. The I/Q baseband input port AC or DC can be coupled to a power supply with a common mode voltage level of approximately 1.4V. The SPI interface controls the power supply current, modulator gain, and provides regulation of I and Q gain and phase imbalance to optimize LO carrier feedthrough and sideband rejection. The LO port can be driven by sine wave or square wave LO drivers. A fixed LC network on the LO and RF ports covers the operating range from 700MHz to 6GHz. An on-chip thermometer can be activated to compensate for gain-temperature changes.
The LTC5589 uses an on-chip diode for more accurate temperature measurements. In addition, a continuous analog gain control (VCTRL) pin can be used for fast power control.
