Broadcom PEX9700 switches allow customers to build high-performance, low-latency, scalable, and cost-effective PCI Express-based fabrics.These switches enable I/O sharing through standard SR-IOV or multifunction features that allow multiple hosts or nodes to reside on a PCIe-based network. Hosts communicate via Tunneled Window Connections (TWC), a special low-latency host-to-host communications feature for short packets.


The PEX9700 switch allows virtual function (VF) sharing of SRIOV endpoints, such as Broadcom MegaRAID® SAS controllers, to be assigned to multiple hosts simultaneously. Each host can enumerate its assigned functions using standard BIOS and operating system software with unmodified vendor-supplied drivers. The use of standard system software minimises software support costs.

Broadcom extends PCIe into the fabric of the data centre and cloud through its ExpressFabric programme and hardware and software platforms. expressFabric eliminates the need for costly bridging devices in the rack, such as adapter cards that convert native PCIe to Ethernet and back to PCIe. In addition, ExpressFabric works seamlessly with other standards used in intra- and inter-rack connectivity.


The industry's first ExpressFabric platform delivers high-performance, low-latency, scalable, cost-effective fabric capabilities based on Gen3 PCI Express. The platform is able to share I/O with standard SR-IOV or multifunction devices and leverage standard PCIe enumeration to enable multiple hosts to reside on a PCIe-based network, a capability not previously available with PCIe devices. Hosts communicate via Ethernet-like DMA and use standard host, terminal, and application software.
