Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. announced the launch of a new series of low-profile, space-grade planar transformers for power conversion, the SGTPL-2516 series. The customizable Vishay Custom Magnetics SGTPL-2516 series transformers offer significant advantages over conventional planar transformers in terms of lower cost, smaller size, and higher power density, and meet MIL-STD-981 Class S requirements.

Available in through-hole terminals and a variety of package sizes, the transformer is widely used in switch-mode power supplies as well as DC/DC and AC/DC converters. Designed for harsh environments, these transformers feature a robust package design with molded windings, operating temperatures up to 130 C, and are MIL-STD-981 certified. The SGTPL-2516 series transformers operate from 80 kHz to 300 kHz, with a high dielectric withstand voltage of 1500 VAC, a power of 150 W, and a leakage induction of 0.5 H.


Thanks to a unique winding structure and manufacturing process, these transformers achieve a higher copper fill factor than traditional flat transformers, resulting in improvements in package size, efficiency and power density. The winding technology of the SGTPL-2516 series makes it easy to adjust the operating voltage, sensing value, power, package size and height to specific design requirements without paying upfront tooling costs. In addition to the MIL-STD-981 standard Class S Group A and Group B screening, these devices also offer Class P screening for design validation tests and other custom screening options.
