Device description:

The TDA21472 is a high efficiency DC-DC converter voltage regulator that integrates drivers, Schottky diodes, and high - and low-side MOSFETs. It supports input voltage ranges from 4.25 V to 16 V, output voltage ranges from 0.25 V to 5.5 V, maximum output current of 70 A, and switching frequency up to 1.5MHz. The device also features a variety of protection features, including cycle by cycle overcurrent protection, VCC/VDRV undervoltage lock protection, and MOSFET phase fault detection.

Compared with the best controller-based inductor DCR detection methods of the same kind, the TDA21472 internal MOSFET current detection algorithm with temperature compensation can achieve excellent current detection accuracy. Protection features include period-by-cycle overcurrent protection with programmable thresholds, VCC/VDRV UVLO protection, phase fault detection, IC temperature reporting, and thermal shutdown. The TDA21472 also features automatic replenishment of a boot-up capacitor to prevent excessive discharge. The TDA21472 features a deep sleep power saving mode that greatly reduces power consumption when the multiphase system enters PS3/PS4 mode.

Operating at switching frequencies up to 1.5 MHz enables high performance transient response, which reduces output inductance and output capacitance while maintaining industry-leading efficiency.

The TDA21472 is optimized for CPU core power supply in server applications. The ability to meet the rigorous requirements of the server market also makes it ideal for powering GPU and DDR memory designs.
