Overview:

The ExpressLane™ PEX8606 (PEX8606-BA50BCG) device provides six PCI Express Gen 2 (5.0 GT/s) channels and supports up to six ports. The switch complies with the PCI Express basic specification rev 2.0.

The PEX8606 is the industry's smallest 6-channel Gen 2 device, and it enables users to connect multiple PCI Express endpoints used in a variety of consumer and embedded applications, including Ethernet routers, IO expansion modules, communications line cards, and other low-power applications. The PEX 8606 features a non-blocking architecture with unmatched performance to support host-centric as well as true point-to-point traffic on ports. The PEX 8606 supports an x2 port width in the upstream port itself, allowing it to connect directly and seamlessly to embedded processors commonly used in such applications.

The PEX 8606 also features an on-chip non-transparent port for dual-host and failover applications, support for dual-clock domain operations, support for spread spectrum clock (SSC) isolation, and two virtual channels for enhanced QoS. The device is hardware-configurable and/or software-programmable, allowing users to customize its port configuration and QoS operation characteristics to meet their application requirements. The PEX 8606 comes in a 15 x 15mm 196 ball PBGA package. The device is available in lead - and lead-free packages. This device supports access Control Services (ACS).
