Detecting pedestrians in dense urban environments is a challenge for the next phase of autonomous driving and autonomous driving. To meet the requirements of L2+ to L4 autonomous driving as defined by the SAE, it is critical to develop a new generation of 4D and imaging radars. In this context, Infineon Technologies has released the final sample of its latest and most advanced RASIC CTRX8191F 28nm radar monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC). The CTRX8191F is designed to meet the requirements of autonomous driving, featuring high performance and low system cost, and will promote the development of a new generation of radar imaging modules.
The CTRX8191F radar MMIC has a more robust performance with a better signal-to-noise ratio than previous generations and can detect vulnerable road users and vehicles up to 380 meters in a system configuration of eight transmitters and eight receivers. The RASIC MMIC enables the cascading of multiple semiconductor devices at low frequencies, reducing the need for expensive RF materials on the circuit board. In addition, the RASIC CTRX8191F features an optimized LOP-on-package (LoP) design for easy use of low-cost waveguide antennas. Its advanced digital PLL offers high flexibility in generating complex waveforms and has the shortest flyback time (<1 μs) on the market.
To accelerate the design and deployment of radar systems, Infineon also offers the CARKIT integrated radar development Kit. Based on the CTRX8191F sensor prototype development module, CARKIT supports a variety of system configurations, including the transmission of raw ADC data, FFT intermediate results, and radar detection results via a Gigabit Ethernet interface. The included sample code and graphical user interface speed up the development and design of prototypes, enabling developers to quickly and efficiently implement their radar system design concepts. The kit also includes a waveguide antenna that can be easily replaced with a custom antenna based on the customer's specific requirements. CARKIT has been introduced in several versions, including a new generation 4D front-end radar configuration with 8 transmitters and 8 receivers, and a cost-effective corner/front radar solution with 4 transmitters and 4 receivers for the standard market.
