Product Introduction:
The Marvell®Alaska®88E1512-A0-NNP2I000 device is a physical layer device that contains a 10/100/1000 Gb Ethernet transceiver. The transceiver implements the Ethernet physical layer portions of 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T standards. It is manufactured in a standard digital CMOS process and contains all the active circuits needed to enable the physical layer functionality to send and receive data over standard CAT 5 unshielded twisted pair wires.
The device supports RGMII (Reduced Pin Count GMII) and SGMII for direct connection to MAC/Switch ports. SGMII can also be used on the media/line side to connect to SFP modules that support 1000BASE-X, 100BASE-FX and SGMII. It also supports copper/fiber automatic media applications with RGMII as the MAC interface. SGMII runs at 1.25 Gbps on a single differential pair, reducing the amount of power and I/O used on the MAC interface.
The device integrates the MDI terminal resistor into the PHY. This resistor integration simplifies board layout and reduces board costs by reducing the number of external components. The new Marvell® calibration resistor solution will meet and exceed the accuracy requirements of the IEEE 802.3 return loss specification.
