Allegro MicroSystems announced the launch of two new XtremeSense TMR sensors that simplify high-power density designs and save space and costs while improving energy efficiency. Allegro's latest solutions, CT455 and CT456, feature high bandwidth and low noise to provide accurate current measurement for applications such as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and automotive powertrains.
The mainstream market today still uses bulky, intrusive and inefficient current sensor modules, and these solutions often do not meet the accuracy and resolution required for some applications and are prone to potential system failures. Solving these problems can create significant design complexity for engineers, resulting in increased costs and longer production times.
In contrast to other traditional solutions, Allegro's new current sensor uses XtremeSense TMR technology with superior magnetic sensitivity, low power consumption and compact size, thus solving many of the challenges faced by engineers. The CT455 sensor supports two standard magnetic field ranges and is able to sense magnetic fields and convert them into linear analog output voltages; The CT456 supports a pre-programmed 6mT magnetic field range. Unlike other solutions on the market, Allegro's latest TMR sensors offer clear advantages in that they are designed to enable smaller, more energy efficient and more accurate current measurements over 80A to 800A for PCB or bus applications, depending on the configuration. Especially in the 80-200A range, the performance advantage is more obvious.
Ram Sathappan, Senior Director of Global Markets and Applications at Allegro MicroSystems, said: "The CT455 and CT456 sensors are the first TMR products introduced by Allegro MicroSystems since the acquisition of Crocus, and their release marks an important milestone. These latest current sensors with Allegro XtremeSense TMR technology represent a quantum leap forward in high-bandwidth electroflumetry and monitoring technology and reinforce our ongoing commitment to driving wider adoption of TMR technology. As a smaller, more energy efficient solution, Allegro's new TMR current sensor offers significant advantages over existing market solutions and technologies that our customers have been looking for."
Unlike traditional high-power current sensors, Allegro's latest TMR sensor is a contactless, non-invasive solution that offers 1 MHz bandwidth and 300 ns response time, enabling faster power conversion. Ideal for applications that require greater power with a smaller footprint, Allegro's latest sensors are compact in design with increased reliability and efficiency, offering the following key benefits:
Preset magnetic field range ±6mT, support high current measurement
Low noise performance improves measurement sensitivity
Optimized for rapid voltage changes over time (high dv/dt)
Compact 8-pin SOIC and TSSOP package options
