Microchip Releases PolarFire FPGA and SoC Solution Stack for Medical Imaging and Smart Robotics
To address the key challenges of accelerating product development cycles and simplifying complex development processes, Microchip Technology Inc.PolarFire FPGA and SoC solution protocol stack released for intelligent robotics and medical imaging.
With the rise of the Internet of Things, industrial automation and intelligent robotics, and the spread of medical imaging solutions to the intelligent edge, the design of such applications, which are limited in terms of power and heat, is becoming more complex than ever.
To address the key challenges of accelerating product development cycles and simplifying complex development processes, Microchip Technology Inc. The PolarFire FPGA and SoC solution protocol stack for intelligent robotics and medical imaging was released. The newly released solution builds on Microchip's already available intelligent embedded vision, industrial edge, and intelligent edge communication protocol stacks.
The newly released solution stack includes firmware and IP cores for A-ASSISTED 4K60 computer vision, A variety of plug-and-play sensor and camera interfaces, and integrated hardware for high-speed Ethernet protocols. The real-time ROS-2-compatible kernel helps with robotic tasks such as perception and coordinate conversion. The stack provides real-time industrial networking protocols for OPC/UA, rich operating system support, and asymmetric processing commonly used in industrial automation. The software design toolkit allows for a high degree of customization and supports a diverse development environment centered around C/C++, RTL, and popular machine learning frameworks. Includes SmartHLS™ IDE, VectorBlox™ Accelerator SDK and Libero SoC design kit with IEC61503 SIL 3 functional safety certification. These solution stacks integrate the industry's most energy efficient and secure mid-range PolarFire FPGas and PolarFire SoC FPGas, offering a wealth of hardware and software solutions with cybersecurity protections designed to give system designers the freedom to innovate in medical imaging and robotics applications.
Shakeel Peera, vice president of Marketing and strategy for Microchip's FPGA business unit, said: "Our customers urgently need to drive major innovations in secure, functionally safe AI-assisted industrial automation and portable medical imaging that require unprecedented computing power in the smallest physical space, while also addressing serious challenges in thermal stress and cybersecurity threats." To that end, we now offer all developers in these areas the ability to leverage high-performance hardware and customizable solution protocol stacks with the ultimate goal of rapidly deploying intelligent medical imaging and autonomous robots."
One of Microchip's innovative solution stack use cases is the recently announced PolarFire FPGA Ethernet sensor bridge that works with the NVIDIA Holoscan sensor processing platform. By bridging real-time sensor data to the NVIDIA Holoscan and NVIDIA IGX and NVIDIA Jetson platforms, the sensor bridge opens new possibilities for edge-to-cloud applications, enabling AI/ML reasoning, and facilitating AI adoption in the medical, industrial, and automotive markets.
