General Description:

The RTS5420 is an advanced USB 3.2 Gen2x1 hub controller that can be used as a 4-port USB 3.2 Gen2x1 hub and a 4-port USB 2.0 hub. It supports the USB3.2 Gen2x1 and USB2.0 specifications and fully backwards supports the USB3.2 Gen1 (USB3.0), USB1.1 and USB1.0 specifications. Based on the MCU architecture, the RTS5420 can easily update the FW to accommodate future specification updates or provide simple feature customisation using the ISP tool.

With the RT Smart Charger feature, the RTS5420 supports most popular charging solutions and supports BC1.2. In addition, Apple and Samsung charger ports are emulated on each port through the RTS5420's auto-detect-switch mechanism.

The upstream ports of the RTS5420 also support the "ACA-Docking" function as defined by the BC1.2 specification. When a device supporting the ACA-Dock feature of the BC1.2 specification is connected to the ACA-Dock, it becomes the host for various USB peripherals such as hubs, keyboards, mice, printers, etc., while this device will receive charging.

The second charger function on the upstream port of the RTS5420 is called the "Charger Detection" function. The RTS5420 supports an automatic detection and switching mechanism; it identifies the type of BC1.2 device connected to the upstream port, including CDP, DCP and SDP, and charges the connected device in the correct mode.

BOM costs are reduced through a combination of factors; the RTS5420 deploys 10Gbps on each port, integrates an LDO regulator to provide a stable 3.3V to the RTS5420 and finally integrates a configurable Billboard device when applying Alt-Mode.

The RTS5420 can update its firmware with an external SPI flash memory via a flexible ISP channel. the ISP function allows for the configuration of a wide range of functions and settings. The ISP function is easily accessible with just a USB cable and the RTS5420's download tool.

The functions and settings of the RTS5420 can also be configured via the SMBUS interface or the internal eFUSE.

The RTS5420 has various interfaces to communicate with other components, such as GPIO, I2C and SMBUS.

The RTS5420 supports a special power saving function called "Delink mode". When no devices are connected, the RTS5420 can switch to a deep suspend mode similar to "disconnect".
