The Piccolo™ TMS320F28004x 32-bit microcontroller (MCU) allows designers to integrate critical control peripherals, different analog and non-volatile memory on a single device. The real-time control subsystem is based on the TI 32-bit C28x CPU, which provides 100MHz signal processing performance. The new TMU extended instruction set further improves the performance of the C28x CPU. This feature enables fast execution of algorithms with triangulation operations (common in transformation and torque loop calculations), as well as VCU-I extended instruction sets (reducing latency for complex mathematical operations common in coding applications).

The TMS320F28004x supports up to 256KB (128KW) flash memory (split into two 128KB (64KW) storage bodies) for parallel programming and execution. In addition, up to 100KB (50KW) of on-chip SRAM is available in 4KB (2KW) and 16KB (8KW) blocks for efficient system partitioning. Flash ECC, SRAM ECC/ parity, and dual region security are also supported.

High-performance analog blocks are integrated into the F28004x MCU to further support system integration. Three independent 12-bit ADCs accurately and efficiently manage multiple analog signals, ultimately increasing system throughput. The seven PGA on the analog front end enable on-chip voltage regulation prior to conversion. Seven analog comparator modules allow continuous monitoring of input voltage levels for tripping conditions.
