Melexis, a global microelectronics engineering company, announced the launch of the MLX90424, a cost-effective solution that simplifies the automotive brake pedal sensing process. For functional safety, the product integrates two position sensor chips and a wake-up switch in a single package. In addition, the solution is able to be powered directly from 12V power supply and enables accurate measurement of linear displacement up to 30mm.

For safety-critical and space-constrained applications such as automotive braking systems, the MLX90424 sensor chip from Melexis is leading the industry trend with its tailored design. The chip not only provides redundancy through bilinear position sensing, but also enables energy savings through an integrated magnetic switch. Compared to existing brake pedal modules that contain separate position sensor chips and switches, the MLX90424 integrates position sensing and switching components in one package, which can be ideally placed in a limited space, greatly reducing design and packaging complexity, simplifying assembly processes and reducing bill of Materials (BOM) component count. In addition, the MLX90424 offers power supply flexibility, directly supporting 12V battery power without the need for additional regulators.

The MLX90424 accurately measures linear displacements up to 30mm and demonstrates excellent resistance to stray magnetic field interference with Melexis' advanced Triaxis® Hall technology. The combined sensor chip is AEC-Q100 certified and supports system integration up to ASIL D for position sensing and ASIL B level requirements for switching according to ISO 26262. The product provides a reliable and highly integrated solution for safety-critical applications such as braking systems, resistant to magnetic field interference up to 5mT (4kA/m) (according to ISO 11452-8).
