Marvell announced the 88Q2112, the industrys first 1000BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet physical layer (PHY) transceiver compliant with the IEEE 802.3bp 1000BASE-T1 draft standard.

Marvell announced the 88Q2112, the industry's first 1000BASE-T1 automotive Ethernet physical layer (PHY) transceiver compliant with the IEEE 802.3bp 1000BASE-T1 draft standard. The 88Q2112 supports the industry's highest in-vehicle connection bandwidth and is designed to meet the stringent EMI requirements of automotive systems. The 1000BASE-T1 standard allows high-speed and bi-directional data transmission over a lightweight, low-cost single-pair cable harness.


"As vehicles are designed and built with more sophisticated advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automakers and engineers are looking for solutions to meet the growing demand for in-vehicle connectivity bandwidth. Marvell was instrumental in developing the IEEE 802.3bp standard role; therefore, I am delighted that Marvell is the first chip supplier to offer a 1000Mbps automotive Ethernet transceiver," said Marvell's vice president and general manager of the Automotive, Wireless and IoT Business Unit. "88Q2112 extends Marvell's leadership in delivering best-in-class Wi-Fi and telematics connectivity solutions, and supports the 1000Mbps connectivity requirements of next-generation connected and autonomous vehicles.


The 88Q2112 is capable of streaming uncompressed 720p30 camera video and supports multiple high-definition (HD) video streams up to 4K resolution. With upgrade compatibility, it can support both 100Mbps and 1000Mbps single-pair Ethernet solutions, and can be used to aggregate multiple 100Mbps Ethernet domains. Also supports the high data rate sensors required for autonomous vehicles. The 88Q2112's line interface is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3bp draft standard, which defines physical layer specifications and management parameters for operation at 1000Mbps over a single unshielded twisted pair copper wire.
