Chipmaker Infineon has raised its financial outlook for the second quarter and for the full year 2023, citing strong business dynamics in its automotive and industrial divisions, Reuters reported.

April 3 (Reuters) - Chipmaker Infineon has raised its financial outlook for the second quarter and for the full year 2023, citing strong business dynamics in its automotive and industrial divisions, Reuters reported.


Infineon said it now expects sales in 2023 to be significantly higher than its previous forecast of 15.5 billion euros.


This outlook will have a correspondingly positive impact on margins, Infineon said. Better pricing and more favourable energy costs will also lead to higher segment margins in the second quarter and above its forecast of 25 percent.


Intel unveils third-generation Gaudi3 artificial intelligence chip


Intel has identified its third-generation Gaudi3 design as a key driver of artificial intelligence in the data centre.


The company is already sampling small chip devices in 3nm process technology to data centre customers, with Intel identifying AI silicon as a key driver and 1.8nm devices currently in flow. Intel is not currently releasing details of the chips and the process technology of the product in combination with other processor small chips, but last year this was described as being 5nm smaller than the 7nm process used in the previous Gaudi2 chip.


The company yesterday doubled its estimate of the total potential market (TAM) for data centre silicon chips from last year to $110 billion, representing more than a fifth of the overall market. Artificial intelligence chips are a key driver in achieving this goal, and Intel sees an opportunity to add AI accelerators to its Xeon processor base.
