Recently, there have been reports in the market about business adjustments at memory giant Micron Technology. In response, Micron has issued a statement to the public.
Micron stated that, given the continued weak financial performance of mobile NAND products in the market and the slower growth of mobile NAND opportunities compared to other NAND opportunities, Micron will cease the development of future mobile NAND products globally, including the termination of UFS5 (fifth-generation Universal Flash Storage) development.
Micron noted that this decision only affects global mobile NAND product development efforts. The company will continue to develop and support other NAND solutions, including SSDs, automotive, and other end-market NAND solutions. Additionally, Micron will continue to support the mobile DRAM market and provide a DRAM product portfolio.
Earlier, Micron Technology reported its FY2025 Q3 financial results (March to May 2025), showing that revenue for the quarter was $9.3 billion, up 15% quarter-over-quarter and 37% year-over-year. The growth was primarily driven by the DRAM business, particularly the HBM business. Micron's DRAM revenue was $7.071 billion, accounting for 76% of total revenue, with a quarter-over-quarter increase of 15.5%. Among these, the HBM business saw a quarter-over-quarter increase of nearly 50%. Micron's NAND business generated revenue of $2.155 billion for the quarter, with a quarter-over-quarter increase of 16.2%.
According to reports, mobile NAND refers to NAND flash memory chips and related products used in portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, primarily including eMMC, UFS, mobile SSDs, and flash cards.
