Infineon Technologies recently announced the completion of its acquisition of Marvell Technology, Inc. The acquisition of automotive Ethernet business. The transaction agreement was announced in April 2025 and has now obtained all necessary regulatory approvals. Through this acquisition, Infineon will enhance its system expertise in the field of software-defined vehicles and further consolidate its leading position in the field of microcontrollers for automotive applications.
Jochen Hanebeck, the CEO of Infineon, said: "This transaction significantly consolidates Infineon's global leading position in the automotive semiconductor field and provides a strong impetus for our strategy to achieve profitable growth." With a more comprehensive product portfolio, Infineon is working hand in hand with its customers and partners to drive the transformation towards software-defined vehicles. In addition, this acquisition has also created new opportunities in the field of physical artificial intelligence, such as humanoid robots. We are delighted to welcome hundreds of highly skilled and passionate employees to the Infineon team and look forward to working together to push the application of Ethernet technology to new heights."
Ethernet is a key enabling technology for achieving low-latency and high-bandwidth communication. It can quickly and reliably transfer large amounts of data among components such as microcontrollers, processors and sensors. This makes it crucial in software-defined vehicles. Moreover, it also has great potential in related application fields such as humanoid robots. Through this transaction, Infineon will combine the advantages of Marvell's automotive Ethernet product portfolio with its existing expertise in microcontrollers and systems, thereby providing customers with more comprehensive solutions.
Matt Murphy, Chairman and CEO of Marvell, said: "We are proud that the Marvell team has successfully built a first-class automotive Ethernet business." Through unremitting innovation and extensive and in-depth cooperation with the automotive industry, Marvell has established a leading position in this key technology field. With its large scale, rich product portfolio and extensive customer reach, Infineon can help unlock the greater potential of this business and become the ideal choice to take it to new heights. We believe that this integration will create exciting opportunities for continuous growth, and we look forward to this team continuing to thrive as part of Infineon.
Ethernet connection solutions are crucial for software-defined vehicles as they are the backbone of electronic and electrical (E/E) architecture communication. Marvell's Brightlane™ automotive Ethernet product portfolio includes PHY transceivers, switches and Bridges, which can provide high-performance network capabilities, support data transmission rates from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps, and offer necessary security features for current and future in-vehicle networks.
The business is expected to have a design winning project reserve of approximately 4 billion US dollars by 2030. Coupled with a clear and stable technological innovation roadmap, it has laid a solid foundation for future revenue growth. In the 2025 calendar year, the business is expected to generate revenue ranging from 225 million to 250 million US dollars, with a gross margin of approximately 60%. The acquisition price is 2.5 billion US dollars. Infineon will fund this acquisition through a combination of existing working capital and newly added debt capital, and has already obtained acquisition financing from banks.
Infineon aims to further expand its newly acquired Ethernet business by promoting innovation and quickly converting it into customer value. All professional capabilities in Ethernet will be integrated into the newly established "Ethernet Solutions" business line of Infineon's automotive Division. This acquisition will further consolidate Infineon's already solid market position in the United States, including its extensive layout in the research and development field.
