Description

The SKY77742-21 SkyHi™ Power Amplifier Module (PAM) is a fully matched 16-pad surface developed for Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA), Code Division Mounted Modular Multiple Access (CDMA) and Evolutionary Data Optimization (EVDO Rev. B). This compact and efficient module packs complete coverage of WCDMA bands I, II, IV, V and VIII into a compact package.

The SKY77742-21 meets the stringent spectral linearity requirements of WCDMA transmission to maximum power output. the PAM also meets the stringent spectral linearity requirements of CDMA, HSDPA, HSUPA, HSPA+, CDMA2000 high power data transmission efficiency. The directional coupler integrated into the module eliminates the need for any external couplers. A single gallium arsenide (GaAs) microwave monolithic integrated circuit (MMIC) contains all the active circuitry in the module. the MMIC contains on-board bias circuitry, as well as input and inter-stage matching circuitry. Outputs are matched to a 50Ω load off-chip to achieve modular packaging to optimise efficiency and power performance.

The SKY77742-21 PAM uses Skyworks' InGaP GaAs heterojunction bipolar manufacturing to provide transistor (HBT) process for all positive voltage DC supply operation while maintaining high efficiency and good linearity. No VREF voltage is required. Power down is achieved by setting the voltage across VENHB and VENLB to zero volts. No external supply side is required for switching, as the typical "off" drain current is a few microamps, with the full primary voltage being supplied by the battery.
