The ADE7953ACPZ is a high-precision energy metering IC primarily designed for single-phase applications. It measures line voltage and current, and calculates active, reactive, and apparent power, as well as instantaneous root-mean-square (RMS) voltage and current.
The device integrates three Σ-Δ ADCs and a high-precision energy metering core. The third input channel can simultaneously measure neutral line current, supporting theft detection and neutral line current billing. The additional channel integrates a complete signal path, enabling various measurements. Each input channel supports independent and flexible gain stages, making the device suitable for use with various current sensors, such as current transformers (CTs) and low-resistance shunt resistors. Two on-chip integrators facilitate the use of Rogowski coil sensors.
The ADE7953ACPZ can access on-chip metering registers via multiple communication interfaces, including SPI, I2C, and UART. Two configurable low-jitter pulse output pins provide outputs proportional to active, reactive, or apparent power, as well as current and voltage root mean square (RMS) values. Comprehensive power quality information, such as overcurrent, overvoltage, peak, and sag detection, can be obtained via an external IRQ pin. The device includes independent active, reactive, and apparent no-load detection functions to prevent meter ‘creeping.’ Additionally, dedicated reverse power (REVP), zero-crossing voltage (ZX), and zero-crossing current (ZX_I) pins are provided. The ADE7953ACPZ energy metering IC operates on a 3.3V power supply and is available in a 28-pin LFCSP package.
