The BCM54616SC0IFBG is a tri-speed 10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet transceiver integrated into a single CMOS chip. The device performs all physical layer (PHY) functions for 1000BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, and 10BASE-T over standard Category 5 UTP cables. 10BASE-T Ethernet also operates over standard Category 3, 4, and 5 UTP cables. The BCM54616SC0IFBG is designed to meet SGMII industry standards, exceeding IEEE specifications for noise cancellation and transmission jitter to provide consistent, reliable operation over the widest range of existing cable equipment. The BCM54616SC0IFBG is based on Broadcom's proven Digital Signal Processor technology and combines a digital adaptive equaliser, analogue-to-digital converter, phase-locked loops, line drivers, encoders, decoders, echo cancellers, crosstalk eliminators and all other necessary support circuitry. The BCM54616SC0IFBG is designed to be fully compliant with the RGMII, SGMII and MII interface specifications, and is compatible with industry-standard Ethernet MACs and switching controllers.

Designed to operate reliably over the toughest Category 5 cable equipment, the BCM54616SC0IFBG automatically negotiates with its link partners to determine the highest possible operating speed. The device detects and corrects most common cabling problems.The BCM54616SC0IFBG features CableChecker™ diagnostics, which detects common cable problems including shorts, opens and cable lengths.
